Nordic Walking Poles

The market offers many different types of poles, but not all of them are suitable for Nordic walking – a similar case as with balls: each ball differs slightly in size and material it is made of, and is, thus, intended for different sports discipline. A tennis ball will not serve well in basketball; the same applies to Nordic walking poles: one cannot present the proper Nordic walking technique with ski poles, for example.

The market offers trekking poles, downhill skiing poles, cross-country skiing poles, trail running poles, golf poles, etc. If we do care about training and health effects resulting from Nordic Walking, we should practice this activity with the right poles only.

Skiing Poles

Avoid ski or trekking poles!

When using trekking or ski poles one cannot learn the proper Nordic Walking technique.

The difference between trekking or ski poles and Nordic Walking poles can be seen in virtually every element of their design. The hand grip and strap prevent you from proper arm swinging backwards and correct return movement of the pole.

The construction and durability of the handle in ski poles is inadequate, plus the blunt tip does not provide adequate grip (traction) for pushing off on flat surface.
